Lionel Messi Retires From International after Losing to Chile in the Copa America Final 2016

Lionel Messi has decided to retire from international football and no one saw this coming. According to Messi, it is sad and more than anything else, it hurts not to win a tournament for his nation. Football pundits believe that this decision is more for egocentric reasons than for his fitness reasons. Fans from all around the world believe that he will change his decision and come back to play for Argentina all over again. The feats that Messi has achieved with his club Barcelona is beyond comparison to what he has achieved with Argentina. It is almost single handedly that he took Argentina to the finals of the World Cup in 2014, but he was inches away from lifting the trophy. This time round, it was the same thing. The feeling of déjà vu and his failure to deliver a trophy to his national has led him to take this decision.

Lionel Messi's retirement from international football after missing in a penalty shootout against Chile in the Copa America final has come as a shock to many of his fans all around the world. After a career total of 113 appearances for Argentina with 55 goals, the decision to retire at the age of 29 has been very hard to take for this football maestro. Even the greatest of the greats, Diego Maradona believes that Messi would return to international football soon and would revert the decision of retirement. Not only Maradona, but players from all around the world have showed their support for Messi and have advised him to rethink his decision. The quality that Lionel Messi brings to the Argentina team is at a different level and being the captain he was under tremendous pressure. His performance in Barcelona has overshadowed his performance for the national team and this is what has haunted him over the years. It is to be seen whether he actually comes back from retirement or not.
